Adding just a few new pieces into your existing wardrobe is a great way to refresh it while still keeping your personal style intact. The 3 pieces I’ve chosen to highlight this Fall are considered basics—blazers, jeans and boots. The key idea here is choosing the right new cuts, patterns and proportions to make these basics become stand-outs.
Blazers
Big, boxy, boyfriend, plaid, tweed, shoulder pads—yes to all of the above. Add a big blazer into your closet to wear over jeans, dresses, or trousers and elevate each of those to a whole new look.
Jeans
Straight, stovepipe, high-rise, slightly cropped, any wash. The straight leg is what will make your denim feel modern whether worn with heels, boots or flats. Mid- or Low-rise is fine, too; whatever works best on your body type.
Boots
Knee high, not fitted, stacked or stiletto heel, interesting color or texture. Allowing the boot to create its own shape, rather than hug your leg, is what you’re after. Wear over skinny jeans (yes, those are still in!) plus a big sweater/top or with a long, midi-length, flow-y, feminine skirt or dress.
